sorry but must ask, 86 gt vs 90's tbird SC?

i have a 86 5.0 5spd stock except cats are removed...200hp/185tq i beleive.

my friend has a 90's (93?) thunderbird super coupe (supercharged v6). its an automatic but this guy swears it takes off like a bat out of hell and goes to nearly 60 before a shift. he says he doesn't care what i do to my stang he can beat me in a race.
his car is 210hp/215tq at way lower rpms than my stang.

what do you think the results would be asuming i can drive a 5spd exceptionally well. if u think the tbird would own me what kinda hp would i need to get to to beat his lighter more powerful engine?

if he has a super charged engine he would beat you on the highway, and with a standard in a mustang, you could beat him on a city street.i would say you can beat him off the line, but once up to about 60mph he would be quickly gaining on you.i think it would depend on if he has the overdrive transmission(beat you) or the three speed non AOD(loose to you).I have a feeling your stang weighs a lot less..possibly by about 600 lbs.

ill pretty much agree with hot rod, but heres a story. Im in a 2002 Trans Am V8 (manual of course) on the highway.. I see a SC t bird in front of me, so I gas it and pass him to see if he wants to race. I pass him up by about a car length w/o letting off the gas. then in about 3 seconds he caught up, and then passed me, and left me in the dust.. seriously in the dust, he must have gotten about 2-3 car lengths ahead in NO TIME. Meanwhile Im cramming the gas pedal to the floor feeling like the trans am was at a stand still... ever since then im a die hard SC fan. thats the fastest car I ever raced.

Has he done any mods to it?

These cars are easy to modify.

If he knows how to drive it I think he'll take you on the street from light to light or on the highway...

1989-1995 SC's ran 15.2-15.9 throught the quarter with the 1995 being the fastest and the 1989 being the slowest. '89-'93 SC's pushed 210hp and 315lb/ft of torque and I believe the '94-'95 birds were at 230 and 330 respectively.

15.9 for the 1985 Mustang and 15.3 for the 1987.
The 1986 had 200hp and 285lb/ft of torque, whereas the '87 had 225 and 300 and the '85 had 210 and 270, respectively. I would imagine by looking at the numbers alone the '86 would perform similarly to the '85.

sounds like a close race then, so with minor bolt on mods i should take his stock engine?

hes just so darn cocky is why i want to beat him. he says he dont care what i do to the engine he'd win.

Well that is extreme. You'll own him if you do some work to yours at least if his is stock.

For less than $500 bucks you would own him.
