Mini-me, D16z, or what?

Quick question mini-me=crx si block + vtec head right? Does it make more hp/tq than a regular d16z6 or y8? Cuz i decided to go SOHC VTEC and need to know the best route. Thanx

I can get the head swap dun 4 $350 parts+labor. The whole swap 4 $600. And money's tighter than an Xtra-medium shirt on me.

What are you going to use to control your vtec? Has this installer done this exact swap before? 'cause there are small things you need to know, it's not just a head swap. I just installed my mini-me a few months ago. Also what chassis are you running? You might not be impressed if you have an Si, it ran pretty good in my HF, but I had a DX block which gives you higher compression. I also had some issues with it. I just installed an LS (1.8L dohc) 'cause my tranny busted and I was tired of the limitation of the sohc and no torque.

Overall if you are in to racing at all, you will get this done, and just barely be beaten by all the DOHC and you will be pissed. Like me. The only other route with the SOHC is gonna cost some big $$ I'd say if you've got enough $$ for a $600 swap. Save up another $600 and get a dohc.

The mini-me will have more power than the Z6 swap. This is because of the difference in in compression hight on the A6. The Z6 is going to give you about 9.2:1 C/r, the mini me with the Z6 head will yield you a 9.9:1 c/r, he mini me with a Y8 head on the other hand will give you about 10.3:1 c/r (these are with stock headgaskets, thinner head gaskets could get you higher numbers).

I was running the A6-Y8 mini my self and was out running my friends integra (non v-tec) all day long and my v-tec wasn't even hooked up. So to answer your question yes the mini me puts out more than just the swap.

The DOHC is a good platform, but your looking at $2k just for a crappy B16 swap. It all depends on what you want to do. If you are wanting a fast car do the B20 swap I have heard nothing but praises about those. If you just want something quick that you can still drive everyday you can go there with the D.

Re: Mini-me, D16z, or what?

Yea, I guess if you are paying someone else to do the swap, definetely go with the mini-me. It is gonna cost more to do a dohc swap if you have to pay someone to do it.
