fuel pressure regulator

i have a 97 gmc pickup with a 5.7 350 vortec csfi and thinking about replacing fuel pressure regulator...my truck has been getting hard to start and now i have to pump the gas pedal to get it start and it kinda sputters when it does start after that it runs fine....i know i have to remove the upper intake to get to the fuel pressure regulator...Do i have to remove the csfi "spider" or can i leave it alone and just unbolt the upper intake..i don't want to take anything apart that i don't need to ...any information would be great thanks....

You just have to remove the upper intake, you dont really have to mess with the spider, fuel pressure regulator is mounted to the passenger side of the injector assembly with a clip(big one at that, easy to deal with). Keep track of where the bolts/studs came from, it can be tricky the first couple times. Watch for "washed" spots in the manifold when you have the upper off- may be signs of injector lines leaking, if more than 2 or 3 injectors are leaking, you may be best off going with the MFI upgrade that includes the fuel pressure regulator, you can probably do a search on this site(Gm and Chevy parts) for 17113206(I think is the part number for upper intake manifold seal kit(V8) and you should stumble upon the part numbers for 5.0 and 5.7 MFI

It will replace the CSFI spider(injectors, fuel pressure regulator, and poppets) with a MFI setup that the injectors are where the poppets are on the CSFI setup and the MFI is less likely the clog up or stick. The injectors themselves are the same size so don't think it's like upgrading from a 2 bbl carb to 4 bbl, but its a reliable injector setup

thanks for the info Jeremy..I'll look around and see if i can get a mfi upgrade..i want some injectors that ain't going to get clog or stick all the time....

i have a 1996 gmc truck with 195000 a vortec v8 i replaced the fuel pressure regulator today it aint that hard to do just take your time i also cleaned it up with carb cleaner

gmc2468 I'm sure it ain't that hard to replace a fuel pressure regulator...I'm just worried that it might be some of my injectors leaking and not my fpr...My trucks only got 115,000 on it.i might just get an upper intake gasket and take it apart and find out the problem...
