If you had it to 3 mechs did they do anythig? If so, did they reset the indicator? It may be time to change your spark plugs if you haven't already. And reset the Service Vehicle Soon indicator via the radio. Explained in your cars manual.

My car does that same thing. Mine usually does it at night or when it's dark enough for the car to automatically turn the headlights on. When you go in the car wash it's dark enough for the headlights to come on. When my headlights come on, the service vehicle soon light comes on. The only way it will shut off is if i leave the car off for a few minutes. See what time of day it comes on. If it's doing what i described, it's the light control module, i haven't a clue what it is, but thats what the dealership told me and they where just as clueless as I was. Now i don't take it there anymore.

let me know,
mike

After servicing your car does it still stay on? If so, you need to reset the indicator via the radio.

I've had all kinds of problems with service messeges and lights going on and then off. my car is back being serviced agian as I write. They now tell me a bad battery could cause all this. The computer is tring to compensate for a low battery condition and only the essential componets for keeping the car running will operate properly. I'll let you know if it was the cause

the new impala's (2000-present) have a very sensitve pcm. if you have any accessories like a jet power programmer or aftermarket stereo depending on which fuse plug they used to power the programmer or stereo it could be sending a bad code to pcm. I installed the jet power programmer on my impala just like the instructions said to and the service vehicle soon light came on. the instructions said wire the jet programmer to the cigarette lighter fuse. but when you start it your cigarette lighter goes on and off. so I re-wired it to the passenger side to the 15amp radio fuse and it now works fine. it's a shame the new impalas don't perform as good as they look.

Reset the system

Maybe try to remove the positive cable from the battery. And wait for the car to reset itself guestimate how long. Reconnect and hope the cars internal computer resets. I have tried this before in the past it worked. My car is out of warranty. Hope this helps.

Police Model can still be reset by other functions I.E. The gas pedal, lights so on.

Turn the key to the ACC posistion but not actually starting the car and hit the gas pedal 3 times (or repeatedly) and it should reset.

And if you ever have the tire-pressure light come on from a pothole, pull the light knob on-off 3 times quickly while also being in the ACC position.

Also, sup police-car-buddy?

Re: 2000 Chevy Impala Service Vehicle Soon Light

.
My daughter's 2000 Impala (3.4L) developed the same issue recently. No codes came up when scan tool was hooked up.

Two things:

I've read talk of it being a fault within the lighting circuit, but no light issues exist that I know of.

However, the owner's manual says: "SERVICE VEHICLE SOON - This message will come on if you have engine problems. These problems may not be obvious and may not affect vehicle performance or durability..."

A co-worker emissions tech says he recalls seeing this happen twice, with no codes. He ended up selecting 'erase codes' anyways, and it fixed the problem. Going to do the same on hers and see if I too have success.

Re: 2000 Chevy Impala Service Vehicle Soon Light

BIG DIFFERENCE between "Service Engine Soon" and "Service Vehicle Soon"........the first one usually denotes a driveability problem, the second one is usually concerned with the lighting system.....check your high beams, low beams, and DRL's.....

Re: 2000 Chevy Impala Service Vehicle Soon Light

if you're still having this issue I just had this same problem. Check ALL of your fuses under your hood. *Ex* I have an 04 impala ls and did not realize that the fog light fuse had blown.. by changing the fuse it turned off the light. By doing this simple step it could save you 100+ for a stealership to diagnose the issue and simply change a fuse. If that does not work then you could check the trunk sensor sometimes they can go haywire and cause you all sorts of issues. If you have a check engine light as well as a service vehicle soon light you could take it to your nearest Autozone, or O'rileys and they will do a diagnostic for free. So now you're on your last leg and nothing else has worked. At this point you should start looking around for a GM shop that has a Tech 2 diagnostic reader. The standard readers will not remove/pickup any codes for a service vehicle soon unless the service engine soon light is on. I hope this has helped and happy hunting!
