There is more than just the motor mount blocking the timing belt cover.

So do i need to remove all those pulleys and belts to get the timing belt cover off? Those are blocking it from going anywhere.

I am such a noob sorry!

gotta remove the Crank pulley (this can be difficult) and all the Belts, the cover is held on with a few bolts take them off and you will have acess to the tensioner.

Re: There is more than just the motor mount blocking the timing belt cover.

timing belt is not a small project by any means..my advice is to drive to a shop... take your wheel off...have em break the crank pulley bolt free.. then drive home..this thing is nearly impossible to get off..

Re: There is more than just the motor mount blocking the timing belt cover.

yea it's gonna be a bitch getting that crank pulley bolt off. I broke an extension a ratchet and an adapter and it still didn't budge. I had to get a local tire shop to come over with a truck with a compressor on the back and ever HE had a tough time with it.

It was easier to swap my head than change the timing belt lol.

electric impacts are usally weaker than air guns. if you need help just getting to the timing belt, i dont think you should be doing a project like this. this is something simple and if you dont know how to do something this simple then you shouldnt be doing it. also if you mess up you may blow yoru motor.

most air guns that people have at there home garage are not all that and u need a large compresser to run a 1inch air impact. i have seen first hand a electric impact take off a crank pulley bolt like it was nothing. i dont mean a 14.99 elcetirc impact from walmart, i said a good electric impact

Re: There is more than just the motor mount blocking the timing belt cover.

I have a home compressor, like 9 gallon or so, and regular air fittings - went to Harbor Frieght and bought a 540 ft lb air gun and it takes them off easy. But you need like over 450 ft lbs of torque to get a crank pulley bolt off. Before I had all that I would lock up the flywheel and then use a 2ft breaker bar to get the pulley loose. Make sure you are using 1/2 inch sockets, or you'll break them everytime.

put an old exhaust pipe (5ft long) over breaker bar and it comes off like butter

Re: There is more than just the motor mount blocking the timing belt cover.

you think i fucking care about the motor? I would rather learn how to do it at the sacrifice of a 500$ motor than pay nine fucking million dollars for some fat ass in a shop to do it, so why don't you shut the fuck up and let me learn

I agree
I went to my local Harbor freight store
Got a 240ft-lb 1/2" drive for 39.99(normally 69.99/was on sale)
it has taken off every thing

nothing beats a GOOD airwrench tho
That means a BIG compressor and an $80 gun
This makes an electric much more worth it for the home mechanic

Don't be cheap tho, get the best electric you can

ps
if you insist on leaving the engine in the car to do this
put the car in gear when you try to break the pulley bolt loose
you will need a pulley puller set to get that bugger off after the bolt is out
