Temp Gauge

My temp gauge seems not to be working. A couple of minutes after I start my 88 hb civic the temp gauge goes from cold right to overheating hot. I know that the engine is not over heating not in a couple minutes. Also my gas gauge seems to be stuck. Anyone know what's going on. My check engine light is not on but my ecu flashed 6 times. any idea?

Re: Temp Gauge

code 6 is coolant temp. So you may have a bad sensor on the engine. Either that or your guage is messed up and causing the ecu to get false readings.

Re: Temp Gauge

the engine and gauge have seperate sensors. check the wiring under the dizzy and the grounds in that area.

Re: Temp Gauge

your temp sensor is grounding out somehow, it goes to hot when it touches ground.

Re: Temp Gauge

My temp gauge has stopped working. It stays at cold. The engine doesnt seem to be getting overheated. It seems like I am not getting as hot air as I used to. The gauge worked a bit yesterday. I cant tell if its a gauge problem or if the thermostat is the culprit. Any troubleshooting help is appreciated. I have been driving my car as usual and cant feel/see anything suspicious. Thanks.

Re: Re: Temp Gauge

WASSUP....

I'm having the same problem as we speak.
To start, I'm going to the source. The gauge itself. Only problem here is that I'm not sure where the t-stat housing is located. I was told by almost everyone that it is located at the end of the top radiator hose to the engine block.....which it isn't.

Where is the damn thing!?!?!?!?

Re: Temp Gauge

hey thanks for the pics, i didnt realize there was a little bitty connector right below the distributor the one with two wires puts on the code 6 CEL which is coolant temp so i figured it had something to do with that one but i was wrong. the wire broke off the sending connector for the guage and i put it back wala. all fixed. thanks again.
