Hello I just got my 98 aurora back from a mechanic after doing the head gaskets, he said the only thing left to do is replace the cam sensor so I did and the engine light is still on. I runs rough at idle but it drives fine and the engine light is on. Is there anyway I can find out what code it is so I can fix it myself.

Harbor Freight Tools has a generic code reader that will pull codes and is on sale now for like $40. It's not the best unit in the world...but it works. I got one and it pulled the codes I needed. Also....can you ASK hte mechanic. I assume they pulled the codes...so they should be able to tell you. Did they not reset them...or did they just go off again?

I forgot to mention that the tachometer all of sudden when I was at a stop started going crazy, it was jumping from idle to 3k rpm's to 2k rpm's to 4k prm's and back up and down again, but the engine was not revving up it stayed at idle, anybody know what that is

you have to have a scan tool to reset the codes. The one I posted earlier will reset codes, but you can't just do it yourself w/o the equipment (unplugging the battery may..but not sure).

Re: service engine light
When I changed the oxygen-sensor in my Aurora and sensors turned out to be the wrong model #, check engine light came on, so it could be the wrong sensors mechanic put in your car.
