Heater Core Replace

My Daughter has a 99 Subruban and was quoted $600 to replace the front heater core. I thought that was pretty steep since I priced the heater core at about $50. Anyone know how big a job it is to replace the core?

Thanks,

Jim

sounds high, I would check around. I have not done one on a suburban, but I did one on a silverado, it was horrible...... Me personally, I love to work on cars whenever I can and do all my own work whenever possible but I would definately pay to have this done if I could afford it.

I had an s10 needed heater core. I preffer to do my own repairs, but not this. No shop in my town would do it for less than $600 no matter how long it takes. Luckily for my temper I wrecked it before I tackled that bear. Unluckily for my back and neck though. If your mechanical and have a whole day save the money and do yourself. Get drunk afterwards, not during or you'll need two days. If you have the money and dont mind losing it pay some one to do it then get drunk

Re: Heater Core Replace

Try flushing your cooling system first. You can buy a kit at a parts store for $4 that will back flush the entire system including the heater core. It may be that it is just clogged up. You'll also need antifreeze, flushing fluid, and access to a water hose. Instructions come with the kit and a clerk at the parts store can answer any other questions.
Good luck DSY
