I feel violated by Ford

I have a 2000 Ford Expedition and on Fri. Nov. 19th 1 1/2 hours after arriving at work I was told that my car was on fire in the parking lot. It was put out quickly and luckily no one was hurt. The origin of the fire is in the left side engine compartment in the elctrical system near the dash. I'm amazed to be reading all of the accounts of the same thing happening. I know how you all feel, betrayed by something you felt safe in. Some thing needs to be done about this before some one gets hurt.

I feen no remorse for people that this happens to. why didn't you have the recall done. the letters come in the mail and people don't read em and this is what happens.

Re: I feel violated by Ford

I think it affects 98's as well. I know my 1998 Expedition was finally recalled, but i didnt wait. I disconnected the leaking cruise control switch from the master cylinder long before. Evidently. this switch is hot even when the truck is shut off. So when brake fluid leaks into the switch and contacts the hot wire, they catch fire in the garage and burn down your house.

Ford has been way too slow to correct problems that are well known. Another problem they are totally ignoring is that of spark plugs blowing out of the heads on 5.4 liter Triton engines due to poor design of the heads. Not enough threads to retain the spark plugs. Instead of tackling this problem head on, Ford sticks their head in the sand and refuses to take care of their customers. I have driven Fords all of my life, but when my Expedition goes, that's the end for me. Now they are in serious financial trouble...go figure!!

Re: I feel violated by Ford

I have to say - I think there are problems with the head design. but, I also ahve to say I have never seen a plug blow out untill after it has been removed and reinstalled or replaced. not enough people use the proper torque specs and thus the plug loosens just a bit and pounds the threads out of the head. I have done it myself - since then I torque them (hard to do on the rear plugs but possible) and no more problems!

Angry Re: I feel violated by Ford

i'm currently having my 97 expo worked on, for the #2 plug blowing out, my plugs were changed by the dealership, i'm looking at having an insert installed by a mechanic's shop, the cause is poor head design, over or under torqed plugs etc.
i talked to a service tech at the ford dealership, stated that ford was aware of the problem, but no recall, or assistance program was available
try calling around to find a shop that's had experiance with this issue, speceal tools are avail to rethread the hole or add an insert.
good luck

Re: I feel violated by Ford

The cruise control switch on the master cylinder is the source of the problem. The switch is "hot" (has voltage) at all times. Ford recently expanded the recall to include older vehicles as well. I just got a letter about a month ago concerning my 1994 E150! Ford has known that the problem was much wider spread than they previously admitted and is only now sending out additional recall notices.

Re: I feel violated by Ford

Same as the leaking windshields, the sealing area is defective from the factory, takes out the GEM module and the only fix is getting the windshield resealed with a new GEM module.Ford has not recalled that also, there is a tsb on that and I know there is a lawyer planning to sue Ford for the faulty windshield sealing area. This lawyer was in my father's shop one day wanting some info on this

Re: I feel violated by Ford

My 99 exp had it's recall. 5 minutes to disconnect it then when it came in. 10 to install it. While u wait. It was a small electrical harness near the master cylinder. I was the 2nd owner and got notified.
