c4 transmission question.....please help (Post #1)
I have a '65 mustang w/a auto tranny that when it shifts into 2nd gear it makes the whole car shutter. It is wierd, check this out......when the car is still cold the tranny and car runs outstanding, shifts fine through all 3 gears. Once it warms up, if you take off from a stop, then you get this shutter/cut out from first to second gear. Car shifts fine from 2nd into 3rd. Something else that is wierd......if you get on the gas harder no matter what temp the car is, it shifts fine through all three gears. Shutter only happens with normal to lower take off speed from a stop.
A friend tells me it sounds like the bands are stretched and also says they can be tightened........is this true? He says to take it in and it should be less than 100 bucks. I really have never heard of this, but I am far from a mechanic. Any help/ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.
