Faulty injector swap?
My friend Mike and I replaced the head gasket on my car a few weeks ago. After finishing the job, we tried to start the car up and it would only crank. We smelled gasoline, and then noticed a substantial amount of fuel was leaking near the rail. Turns out the bottom ring on one of my injectors was shredded. So we called it a night until I could get a ring. Next day he calls me and tells me that he got the car running by swapping out our injectors (his 91' turbo and my 99' GST). I didnt exactly like the idea but hey, my car was running so I was happy.
Now he calls me and tells me we need to swap injectors back because theyre different. He said theyre the same cc, but just different length, and that it will cause my car to run lean and his to run rich. I personally feel like he's BSing me. I've tried to search for for info regarding this difference in injectors but cant find any info besides the traditional sizing. Anyone know anything about this? Am I being scammed by my shady friend Mike? lol Any info you guys have is appreciated. |

Re: Faulty injector swap?
i have no clue about the sizing...if i were you, i'd look for another ring for your injector. around here, they're a bitch to find...if you want, you can private message me and give me your address and i'll ship you out a ring in an envelope...i have quite a few extra injector rings. that way, you can still use your original injector.

Re: Faulty injector swap?
just get the orings from the mitsubishi dealer. make sure to oil them before you put them in so they dont tear.

Re: Faulty injector swap?
well the thing is...he already replaced the ring and has been running my 2g injectors in his car for the past three weeks. Now he claims that we need to switch back... Knowing him, something probably happened to my injectors, and now he wants to leave me with the screwed up set..
He keeps telling me that we need to switch back or both of our cars will eventually blow. However my car is running great now, so I dont want to risk anything... Do you think I should wait it out and see if my car starts to underperform? Or would that be too risky? Can running lean do much damage to your car? Thanks for the help so far...I just really dont want to get screwed.. |

Re: Faulty injector swap?
I think he may be the one getting screwed. If you're injectors are bad, its you're problem anyway
Odds are both sets are fine, he's just nervous now. Give him his injectors back and use new insulators (bottom) and orings (yop) on your injectors, its like 10 bucks total

Re: Faulty injector swap?
i don't see how a small difference in injector length could have anything to do with car blowing up. as long as they put out the same amount of fuel at the same time and operate the same way, there should be no problem. it's just one sticks in the intake manifold farther than the other, thats the only real difference.
