Lowered 95 S10, 2WD, Wheel & Tire Size?

My son's S10 is lowered (I think about 2"), 4.3, 2WD, Auto, ext. cab. Right now it has stock rims & some puny looking 225 / 15 tires on it which he want's to upgrade to a custom 16" or 17" rims & low profile tires. Any info or suggestions as to which size & offset to go for which will not have clearance problems. He's also been watching ebay adds for deals, but I'd hate to have him purchase anything there then have fit & clearance problems once he's got them.

get the bolt pattern and go with the 17's if he wants, the wheel well has enough room for 20's, low pros also help, not much there, he will have plunty of room up to 18" not sure on back spaceing, go to local tire supply store and they can look it up for ya

I finally got under the truck to measure the rear lowering block which is actually 3-1/2. Would the same rim & tire recommendations apply?
In addition, I read that allota lowering kits use the wrong U-Bolts that are 3" across when the axle diameter is actually 2-3/4" in diameter. I noticed the bad drive shaft & pinion angles. Plan to redo it right with the proper lowering kit to correct the rear axle angle, raise the carrier bearing, & raise the tranny tail housing. I plane to use the kit from these guys unless anyone has better ideas:

i still *think* 17's with low pros would fit on the lowerd truck without a c notch, my cousin slammed his 89 s 10 and said that overall the c notch job was fairly easy (kid has a lot of machanical experence, but it sounds like you do too gene) it might sound asinine but to see if they will fit dia. wise take a piece of cardboard and cut it rim size plus tire size and eye it, as far as backspacing i cant help you there, and i honestly like the guys at bell tire (there good up here ne ways) they will answer your question as long as you atleast pretend to be interested in a sale.
