In need of help...

Up til 3 weeks ago, I had no clue (not to mention interest) in cars.
At all.
However, I got a '91 2-door 2l Skyline GTS and caught the proverbial bug of car-fever.
But, I'm chronically pissed-off with the Auto transmission, so I'm all up for ditching it in favour of a manual.
So I talked to a friend of mine, who told me that there's compression and big words like that to worry about if I just changed the transmission, and I'd be better to drop the whole bloody engine out and chuck in a manual.
Effectively, I'm on my knees begging for someone to tell me what the hell I have to do and buy, and approximately how much I'm looking at.

Many thanks,
Andy Thomas

PS Should there be anything else to my model than just GTS? Because that's all it says on the car. Excuse the ignorance.

Manual conversions have been done successfully before. One of the guys in the Skyline club i'm in recently got his turbo Skyline converted over to a manual and it is running alright now.

And the R32 Skyline came in seven different types of models.

GXi: 1.8l, NA, 4cyl, RWD, 91 hp
GTE: 2.0l, NA, 6cyl, RWD, 120 hp
GTS: 2.0l, NA, 6cyl, RWD, 155 hp
GTS-25: 2.5l, NA, 6cyl, RWD, 180 hp
GTS-t: 2.0l, Turbo, 6cyl, RWD, 217 hp
GTS-4: 2.0l, Turbo, 6cyl, 4WD, 217 hp (same engine as GTS-t)
GT-R: 2.6l, Twin-turbo, 6cyl, 4WD, 280 hp

Just if you wanted to know.
