A quick question about daily driving

I've read several reviews of the Murc and alot of them have made a point about the fact that it can go to 100 in 1st gear. I know that's probably approaching the redline and most of us don't redline our cars everytime we accelerate. So what are the shift speeds/rpms for the Murc? Say if you're accelerating moderately to 60 MPH, at what speeds do you need to shift?

It may be possible, but that would be taking it deep into the red zone. I'm pretty sure its probably around 65mph or so. Just a guess though.

So you can just cruise in first all the time?

Yeah, I don't remember if it was in Fifth Gear or in Top Gear, or maybe both, but that was one of there major complaints about the Gallardo. They said that you only use first and second gear...I wonder if Lamborghini will change this?

I talked to a guy years ago whose friend had an F355 and said he rarely got into 3rd gear. It may be in an old thread but I think Tony(wonder where he went to?) cruised around in higher gears even though he was only going slow speeds.

You might not be aware of this, but you might, but I doubt it, but these cars are not your average Ford's, or what ever you drive, they are sports cars, and with that, comes high speed, because of this, they need werid gear ratios, an end result of this is high speeds in 1st, and 2nd gear.

so your answer is no. Unless they bring out a nother smaller, family friendly "you can afford this" car, this isn't going to change.

In first gear you can go 65 or 70 MPH. What is more interesting is that the low end torque is so massive you can also go 30 MPH at 900 RPM in 6th gear, my favorite thing to do. You do not even need to put your foot on the gas pedal. It is just that my wife (whose car it is) really hates it.

Generally if I am going over 40 I am in 6th gear, the wife would be in 4th or 5th. This is just to cruise mind you. I also have no problem being in 1st going 40 and then stomp on it for a thrill.

Re: A quick question about daily driving

Hello Gafoto,
a modern super car whith powerboat engine has got a rev limiter. You don't need the red lines. My advice make sure your engine reaches the right working temperture to avoid distruction in this masterpiece an floor you peddel to the gound til your rev limmiter stops the engine from exeedin somewhare around 8200rpm. If you do this more often you'll learn to use all the power which is available an shifting just at the right time.

Re: A quick question about daily driving

Hey Gafoto,

1).
Murcielago's first gear redlines at 7500rpm, 62mph, at 100km/h. The reason for a lot of the supercars to have the first gear tip 100km/h is because purely for 0-100km time purpose, if you have to change gear, then you'll loose fraction of a second.

2).
These cars are design to be reved up, because of its peak at almost reline. vs let's say a normal ford which peaks 1500 rev below reline, which if you redline it all the time, its inefficiant and the engine is over peaking.
