code P0305

My 98 chevy malibu has a code p0305 which is a cylinder 5 misfire. I've changed the plugs and the coil puts out good spark. The car seems to run fine and i can't I can't feel a misfire when driving. My question is is this code primarily identify ingnition problems or could i have a bad injector.

This code will set if there is any condition causing a misfire on #5 cylinder...internal engine problem(compression loss) ignition missfire or an injector concern (lean injector)

Re: code P0305

A leaking intake gasket will also trigger a misfire code. Check for coolant leaks.

I tried a new spark plug wire today no change. I changed the intake gasket last year so i would hope its not leaking already god help me that its not a compression problem. If i change the injecotor does anyone know if it would be safe to reuse the old upper intake gasket or if it would be smart to just pay the extra couple of bucks for a new set.

I had this problem and it was leaking coolant internally. Its not hard to fix - just tedious!

I put a new injector in today and the light stayed on until the engine warmed up and then it shut off. does the engine have to be a operating tempature before it will shut the light off.

Re: code P0305

The light came off because the engine started running within its parameters again. Drive it for a few days and see what happens. Unfortunately, I think the problem will come back. Hope I'm wrong.

Did the injector fix the problem? I have a 99 Malibu and tried all the same to fix the P0305. New intake manifold gaskets last year too. Pug, wire, coil, compression, all are fine. Am saving injector till last.

The other morning I started the car and it was shaking and the Check Engine light was flashing. I turned it off and started the car again and it ran fine. I hooked up a scanner and it said that cyliner number 4 was misfiring at the time. It has been fine ever since. Any ideas? It was raing hard all night. I am thinking that something just got wet.

i havent had anymore problems since i changed the injector. It was kinda heartbreaking to pay a hundred bucks for a part the size of my thumb but it fixed the problem.
