99 turd?
Well my problem is like I've seen others ask about. Sometimes my truck runs better than others. On occasion after idleing for a bit then tap the gas it sounds like it backfires through the intake. I can drive my sisters 97 runner and it fells like a racecar compared to mine. I even liner them up wioth a friend in mine and me in my sisters 4runner and at a 40 mph puinch hers just walks off and leaves mine. Mine has 102k on it new plugs in the summer, I think pcv valve and any other thing I could replace easily on it. Then check engine light doesn't come on but I know something can't be right. How do you adjust timeing on these things? Thanks

On underside of open hood it should tell you what timing specs are to set at....as far as backfiring...EGR valve been checked???Throttle chamber ever been cleaned(not problem I bet but often neglected and I so often find them in need of cleaning anyways) Goodluck and happy holidays :o) |

Re: 99 turd?
I have a 97 and my wife has a 98, 4x4 lim. all the same. I changed the timing belts on both and did a massive tune up on both except I changed her tranny filter. Before, they ran about the same, afterwards hers would smoke mine like a blunt. I therefore changed my tranny filter and they almost run the same. hers has about 45K less than mine. Hers is still a little faster. Try small things like the fuel filter, oil, air ect...
