Couple questions about 1990 RX-7.
I've been looking for a Camaro for a little while now for my first car, but it's becoming more and more urgent that I buy one and I can't really hold out for one much longer. Anyway I've always liked RX-7's and an ad popped up in my paper today for a 1990 RX-7, supposedly in great shape, for 6 grand Canadian. I figured I might give them a call, since it's a pretty sick car, looks and performance wise. I have a couple questions first, specifically about the 1990, but RX-7's in general as well:
1) How big is it, inside-wise? I'm 6'4" with long legs and I can't fit (well) into some sporty imports. 2) How good is it on gas? 3) How reliable is it, mechanically? 4) How much trunk space does it have? I play hockey, so I need to be able to fit a massive hockey bag and a stick into the car. Stick can usually go from the front seat into the back seat without a problem though. Thanks a lot! |

Re: Couple questions about 1990 RX-7.
1) It has about as much room as you want, I'm only 6' and the only problem I ran into was that I had to lay my seat back so that my head wouldn't hit the top of the car or when I had the sunroof open my hat would fly out at times so I leaned the seat back and had to slide it forward a bit so my feet could reach the pedals. I've seen some guys around mid 6 footish and around mid 200-300 lbs fit into a FC.
2) I normally get around 17mpg highway and 14 mpg city driving, but I have a lead foot. 3)If it's a N/A it will last longer then the turbo will, all you have to do is keep it maintained like any other car although they do use oil more offten then piston engines do. 4) If it has back seats you can lay them down and have all the room you need, or if it has the rear storage bins then it's like having the rear seats down with two extra bins to store things in. If it's a vert I'm not too sure on how much room the trunk has, but the coupes are all hatch backs. |

Re: Couple questions about 1990 RX-7.
take a look on autotrader.ca, there an 87 T2 in ontario for 3.9k$ with a rebuilt 3mm apex-seals engine and s5 turbos/tails, and the body has 130 000 kms. no rust.
thats the kind of deal you gotta wait for. and you should find someone with a n/a rx7 and someone with a T2, just to see if you like the car, thinking of buying a torquey v8 and ending up with a reving rotary engine, well, maybe you should think about. its a matter of taste, but to own a rotary, you have to be a rotary enthousiast, otherwise, you wont like your car, you wont like to work on your car, you wont like to pay stuff to your car. they dont take abuse like a v8 would, they are more fragile and more sensible, like a woman. god knows woman can cost alot of money.
