Question 96 Sunfire Acceleration problems

I have a 96 sunfire 2.2 5spd with about 285,000km. It's done very well. It's always been kinda hard starting. For awhile now upon acceleration in the lower RPMs it wants to miss or hesitate, kind of jerks as you go through the gears. Once you get to your cruising speed and that is constant it runs fine. Only upon acceleration in lower RPMs does this problem exist. I have not yet had it checked out by a mechanic. Tune up stuff has all been done. Am thinking a sensor or possibly an injector problem? Anyone out there that has seen similar problems and possible solutions I would greatly appreciate the input. Thanks.

Re: 96 Sunfire Acceleration problems

Sounds like a clogged injector or a bad injector solenoid to me. If you run the engine and tale a screw driver and place the tip on the body of the injector while you listen at the other end you should hear a steady clicking sounds to show that the injector is pulsing and opening the nozzle in a regular pace. If it doesn't pass this test replace that injector and the problem should go away but this could also be a fuel pressure problem from a bad fuel pump or clogged fuel filter if you didn't replace it or could be a ignition problem. Good luck.

I'm thinkin the same thing, fuel system, when did you last replace the fuel filter. Have you ever had the injectors cleaned, not just a bottle of cleaner from auto-whatever. I mean take it to the dealer and had them do a complete fuel system cleaning. 285,000kms is a LOT of mileage on that car (177,090.7901433 to be exact) and at 160,000KM you should have had the fuel system cleaned.
