Your Service Engine Soon light will come on if powertrain (engine/transmission) trouble codes are triggered. Your Service Vehicle Soon light will come on if non-powertrain trouble codes are triggered. You will probably never see the latter illuminate unless you have a serious problem with your car that is not powertrain related or maybe if your car was in a minor accident that still left it drivable but impeded on its drivability. I don't know many details of the Service Vehicle Soon light and I can't think of any exact examples of why it would come on.

Re: service engine light

I was wondering the same thing. But how can you tell them apart? Is the powertrail SES light a different color?
