Talking I need your opinion on this one guys!

Hello there, corvette enthusiasts, Im about to upgrade my exhaust system on my 84 Vette, I just want to know what you guys think of it. My doubts are if its going to pass emitions, (I live in AZ), and if Im gonna be getting tickets for the noise (LOL). What I have in mind, using the stock 2 1/2" pipes, is: Long Tube Headers, Dynatech's PowerCAT, that one alone is supposed to deliver up to 54% increase in the exhaust flow, and the muffler eliminators, which are just pipes with chromed exhast tips, they look like mufflers from the distance, but they arent. I also wanna port and polish my heads (cast-iron). Should I get the muffler eliminators, or should I get just Flowmaster's Super40s? I want my vette to be loud, to stand out from the crowd, to make those ricers and their imports feel the rumble of the american muscle, HA HA HA! Later on, I will be working on the engine and tranny, but that will be my next upgrade. What I have so far is the full greenwood motorsports body kit with matching rims, Hypertech's Streetrunner Chip, and K&N filter. Thanks for your help guys, and please, dont forget to waive.

with headers, pipes, and 40 series mufflers, it will be plenty loud enough.

Danny, just remember the o2 sensor, the MAP sensor and the computer may puke with all of this...mine did. Im new to the crossfire, but I am learning that the more you do to it, the more problems you are going to have. If I can find someone that can guide me through ripping this boat anchor crossfire off and putting an aluminum manifold and holley 650cfm on without totally screwing up the ECM, I would do it tommorrow. Let us know how the ECM reacts to your modifications.

Re: I need your opinion on this one guys!

Danny,
As another suggestion, I have an 88 that I had the complete MagnaFlow system installed including the high flow cats and mufflers and I love the sound when I hammer it! It is also quieter than the Flowmasters and I think that the system works better with all of the smog. I also have also installed long tube headers. This system has increased my torque and horse power dramitacally. Also note that I live in California and I just had the vehicale smogged a couple of weeks ago and it passed with flying colors. I also live in the Bay Area and only get second looks at stop lights from law enforcement when they hear the cam lugging. Good luck in what ever product that you choose.

I'm not sure if the 84 and the late C4's had the same basic exhaust but Flowmasters on my '95 were terrible. At 1700-2100 rpm the resonance was so bad you couldn't have a conversation without yelling.

FWIW, resonance is not exhaust noise it is your brain vibrating inside the car. Not pleasant.

84 exhaust

I put 80 series flow master on mine, trust me its plenty loud enough to turn heads. I was warned to at least put on at least a set of flow masters to build heat so the oxygen sensor working propely.I am one of the few soles to buy an x-ram from Pat in texas, it was well worth it.

Hey, I just got my pair of KBD Targa Mufflers today, they are not the stainless steel ones, but they were only $175 bucks, and they come with 3" chrome tips with red hi-temp paint inside them. Im gonna install them tomorrow first thing in the morning. I also found out that my catalytic converter has been gutted, LOL, so I think I will be loud, how loud? that I dont know yet, I will let you know guys tomorrow.

Well, I got them installed this morning, finally. I like them. Actually, I was expecting something louder during idle but it wasnt. Its quiter than the stock GM mufflers I had before during idle, but at wide open throttle it screams. No resonance at all. I think Im gonne keep them, and get electric cut-outs, for when I feel like making my car even louder. They look cool also, they only had to put an extension on the hanger becasue the new muffler was gonna be touching the body, becasue I have the greenwood package, but they look pretty cool.
