I just have to get this off my chest because i hate bringing things like this up with my friends, because they are all friends with my ex and if they arent then they honestly arent that good of people lol. Anyway, just recently me and my girlfriend of 5 years broke up. Its not like we were just a couple, we lived together in a nice place, had a dog, we were highschool sweethearts too. Lately I have been having health problems and I have had to have a few surgeries, i havent been able to work or go to school. A couple months after I had my first surgery things started to get a little shakey but they always got better. I had been saving up for a ring and to ask her to marry me but then we (she mainly) decides we need to take a break. I dont know what the hell to do! Im up here at my dads now since im still having surgeries and still not working so i dont have to waste any more money ive saved, and i went down to visit last weekend and i was playing with her phone and i see a bunch of pictures of guys ive never seen before, i dont want to say anything to her about it because we are "seperated" so its none of my business. But it hurts man, i know she is going to find someone who is new and different if she hasnt already and it hurts. I dont know what to do about it, should I approach her and say hey i love you can we try again? Or should i just wait and see what happens, it as been about a month since we broke up. I need some advice!
This is probably all coming out because i decided tonight that i have to quit drinking/taking pills every day/night so i dont have any other outlet for any emotions.

Why did she want time apart?
And honestly from a girls side, if I wanted time apart its pretty much over. I've never gone through that though because I'm one of those people that if I split with someone or they split with me, its totally over. Its pretty clear cut. But thats just how I am, I don't like drama I don't like stress and I don't like shit dragging out. But in order to get any advice you gotta say why she wanted time apart. |

Re: Need love help!
Well the shitty thing about moving on is (and i probably should have said this) but we have broken up before and we have always gotten back together, so i cant help but be hopefull that she will tell me she wants to be with me...but also when we broke up i was always in the same town and what not...i guess ill try to get over it for now

Don't expect too much. More often than not life will screw you over.

Breaking up and getting together more than once or so is bull cookies. It's emotionally abusive and is a sign that the relationship will not work. Better you get out now than in a few years when you might have evem more of your life invested in this . BTW who knows, a truly spectacular chick may just be around the corner. |

Re: Need love help!
The only problem with a great chick being around the corner is I have been out of the game for soo long I dont know how to approach her lol, guess if it happens ill just wing it!

Re: Need love help!
man i dont see being out of game for a long time as a dissadvantage. Think about it, your past 5 years look like a gold mine to any chick. Tell them you just got out of a very serious a long relationship. 5 years is alot of committment and thats very important to a girl you would consider a keeper.
As for splitting, its over man. Your just gonna have to move on. Hoping for her to come back is the worst thing you can do. I hope you get better and then go woman hunting. |

Re: Need love help!
Just calm down, relax. Things aren't as bad as they seem. I dated a girl for 2 1/2 years (I posted alot of things that went wrong in stress release) and I thought the world was over. It took about 6-9 months after it was over for me to find a girl I was comfortable with (Laura) and I'm very happy things have worked out this way. Don't start thinking that the last 5 years was a waste of time either, that just gets depressing. Realize that everything you did was an experience and you learned what you like/dislike about someone in a long term relationship, as well as signs to look out for. Be more focused on your physical and emotional health right now than with dating.
Time heals all (with a little determination).

May seem hard to move on at first, as a matter of fact being made to move on when you never wanted to is one of the hardest tasks I can think of, but it's the best thing to do, especially when your health is like it is. There's no doubt better women for you out there and in a cruely ironic twist, the chances are high she'll end up with some loser and then you can have a right old laugh in 5 years time. I'm afraid that's really your only choice. Last edited by Moss1O6GTi; 11-21-2004 at 04:30 AM. |

Re: Need love help!
I would say move on too, except that 5 years is an awful long time. So instead, I would just suggest waiting for a little while. Try and see if her attitude towards you has changed at all. If she loses all interest in you, then Id say your done. But if she keeps you close, she may have just wanted a "break".
But "breaks" rarely mean what they are described as, unless there is an "up" somewhere in the sentence shorty thereafter.
