My '90 Accord
Hey everyone!
I have a '90 Accord EX and it has been giving me some problems lately - I'm hoping I can get some expert advice from you guys. Ok here goes... A few days ago I was driving on the freeway (going around 65-70 mph) and all of the sudden the sport mode light came on and the car jerked forward and seemed to slow down. Also, the engine was really loud - kinda like a revving sound. I looked down at the gauges at the rpm was over 4000! I accelerated and the car seemed very sluggish, like the brake was on or something. I turned the sport mode on and then off again, and the light was still on... after a few minutes of driving it shut off and everything went back to normal. This has happened a few times now. Also, I recently got new front brakes at PepBoys and now when I'm driving I can hear this noise - I can't really explain it... it's not a loud noise, it's like a low pulsating hum. And when I brake, there's also a humming noise. AND, I noticed after I got the new brakes, they actually seemed worse than the old ones and the steering wheel vibrates at highway speeds, which never used to happen. I went back to PepBoys and they replaced the brakes again (which by the way still feel a little spongy) but didn't really say anything about the vibration... they said I needed to get the wheels balanced - which is bullsh*t, cuz I think they did something when they replaced the brakes... anyway - sorry this is so long, but can someone please help me!? Thanks a lot! |

Re: My '90 Accord
Does the steering wheel vibrate when you apply the brakes?? Also check to see if ALL the lugs nuts are installed and properly tightened. check to see if they are installed the right way too.

No, the wheel doesn't vibrate when I brake. That's actually the reason why I went to PepBoys in the first place - to have them resurface the rotors. I'm figuring they did that since there is no vibration now when braking. But, I still have the vibration at highway speeds. I haven't checked the lug nuts yet - I'll do that. I think I'm going to go to Costco and have them balance the tires (they'll do it for free since I bought tires there). Anyway, I still have the noises when driving and braking - what do you think those could be?

Re: My '90 Accord
Sounds like you have a bigger problem then brakes. Maybe a TCU/transmission problem.

Yes, mpumas it was the TCU. I finally figured it out a couple of days ago after doing much research on the internet. I will be replacing it soon. Hopefully, this will fix the problem. Also, I went to Costco and had the tires balanced. No more vibration at highway speeds, but there's still the noise when driving and braking. Those guys at Pep Boys are worthless.
