replacing the oxygen sensors

my check engine light came on and i got the codes pulled and the code is P0141. This is what the guy at Autozone gave me that troubleshoots the problem.

The PCM has determined that a malfunction exists in the heater circuit for oxygen sensor 2 in bank 1. (oxygen sensor 1i s closest ot the cylinder head before the catalytic converter, while oxygen sensors 2 and 3 are located further downstream and are typiccally mounted in or after the ctalytic converter) (bank 1 identifies the location of the cylinder #1, while bank 2 identifies the cylinders on the opposite bank)

my initial guess is that i need to replace oxygen sensor 2? is this process hard or fairly easy. i have a haines manual and everything for my car and am pretty knowledgeable when it comes to fixing cars. unfortunately i have never replaced an oxygen sensor. before i tackle this i just want to know what i'm up against.

This is how to replace them on a dodge stealth...perhaps it will at least give you an idea of whatall is involved.

Re: replacing the oxygen sensors

Since Autozone already told you what's wrong, then you don't have to go through diagnosing the O2 sensor, so you'll need one of two tools, either an open deep socket (looks like a regular socket, but there's an opening along the length of the socket, for the O2 wire to slide through) or a flare wrench which looks like an open end except it looks like a 'C' at the end.

I would go with the socket, since you'll have better grip with it because the O2 sensor will be on very tight due to the heat extremes exposed to at their locations.

Screw off, screw on. It's as easy as that. The O2 at the exhaust manifold you can get to without lifting the car, the O2 at the Cat. you'll have to lift the car, that's the only difference.

Anyway, good luck with the change.
