trunk pull down and alarm

I have a 92 p.a.

recently at work (and only at work) my trunk decides to release itself and the alarm decides to go on. sometimes at the same time, sometimes not at all... the alarm hasn't went off in a couple weeks. now my trunk will not pull down at all and i've disconnected the top latch to prevent the trunk from popping itself...

any help before it start snowing would be great.

They have rebuild kits for the pull-down mechanism. I see them on ebay from time to time.

No idea about the rest of it though... sorry.

Had a same problem. Bought a trunk pull down motor switch from dealer $18.00 and fixed the problem.

Lightbulb For Future Reference - Trunk Pull Down Switch

When the trunk pull down motor quits working and the motor's not burned up and you still have proper voltage getting to the switch (easily checked with a voltmeter), the problem is most likely dirty contacts inside the pull down switch. Just take a small file, file the four rivets off the switch, and it comes apart in two pieces. Now clean all switch contacts with a small piece of emery cloth. I also suggest that you coat the contacts with a small amount of dielectric compound, easily obtained at any auto parts store (the packets used for coating spark plugs works fine). This keeps the contacts from wearing out and from getting dirty. Now replace the old rivets with small no. 6 bolts with nuts to put this sucker back together again and you're in business, and ya didn't have to buy a new switch! And if the switch ever gets dirty again and quits working again, it only takes about 20 minutes to take it apart and clean it again. You should never have to replace this switch unless it burns up for some reason.

BTW: When eespidie's trunk lid released on its own, the alarm went off because there's a tamper switch back there that sets off the alarm any time the security system is armed and it thinks somebody is breaking into the trunk.

Re: trunk pull down and alarm

My switch burned out (literally) on my 91 pa about a year ago. ripped one out of a cadillac at the local junkyard and it works great.
