Unhappy fuel pump running

Have a 2000 vr6.
connect battery and can hear fuel pump pressurize and stop.
start car and run for any length of time.
turn off engine and fuel pump continues to run, never stopping.

anyone know what that could be?

I put a ear on the fuel pump. it is a rotating sound.
