Computer control

How can I find out if my computer is going into "closed loop" mode?

Re: Computer control

i assume you are talking about the 89 camaro in your profile, really the only way to "see" it go into closed loop is with the tech one hooked up. a telltale sign is when the rpms drop from around 1700 to 700 or so.

Yes, newbe mistake. 89 Camero 2.8L.

It does idle down but not to 700 (still working on proper idle). No computer codes in memory. Could a temp sensor keep me from going into clised loop?

Other tidbits: Purge canisiter soleniod stay on (energised). This is supposed to turn off (purge) after warm up.

Rad fan not comming on by computer control (no gnd to relay). I have it jumped to gnd temp and it stays on.

yes the temp sensor can keep your ecm from going into closed loop. on my truck i can tell when it goes into closed loop because my drivablitly improves do to the factory open loop settings in the prom not being quite accurate for the engine i built.

you can download a free program that tells you everything about your engine whille it's running. all you have to do is spend about $5 to built an interface cable to connect a laptop to your aldl connector. if your interested, i'll try to find the company.

and by the way, on OBDI systems the computer has no control over the radiator fan. turn on your ac and check if the fan comes on. if it doesn't, then you need a new relay or a new fan motor or possibly a fuse. if it does come on, then you need a new fan switch.
