Unhappy Had the biggest scare of my life this morning

I have had 5 hours sleep (as I was up all night playing San Andreas) when my mum came into my room at 7:15 before she left for work and said in a really nervous, almost sad, tone of voice and said "David, please call me when you get up, I need to talk to you".

Late last week, my mum's mum, my Grandmum had falled out of bed in the middle of the night and hit her head, she's 79 years old, and can't walk properly, and yeah, she suffered minor injury's (intense bruising, and non-stop bleeding for 3 days, she WAS hospitalised for 24 hours), and when mum said "call me, we need to talk" I almost started crying because I thought she passed away during the night, I got so scared I couldn't sleep. Then I did cry when mum left (I had just woken up fully, and started to comprehend). I'm very close to my grandparents.
I got out of bed at 8:10 and I read a note written by mum: "David, can you please go to the shops to get the cake for tomorrow night, ring me if you can't get there", what the..?
I was still worried to I went for a bike ride, an hour late I rang mum, she said "I forgot about the cake for your brotherm can you pick one up?"

Man, I feel like such a pussy.....

Anyway, to not waste a decent thread, what's the biggest scare of your life? (You can say a scare is when you thought one thing, but the result is differant to what you expected - just to clear it up)

The biggest scare of my life was about 6 years ago. I was driving my daughter and my new baby grandson back from the hospital in an 8 month old E55 AMG, when a lorry that I was following spilled its load. Problem was it was carrying house bricks, which went under the wheels, and through the windscreen, which caused me to loose controll.

The car then left the road, down an embankment where after rolling 4 or 5 times, it came to a stop (right way up) in a field. I was still awake, but my daughter who was sitting in the back with the baby, had been knocked unconsious, and had slumped over the baby. When I turned around to look in the back of the car, I don't think I've ever been that scared in my life.

Both are fine, however a police report sait, that if anyone were sitting on the front pasanger seat, they would have been killed due to the vollume of bricks that enterd the car on that side. Kind of lucky really.

Re: Had the biggest scare of my life this morning

I was driving down the highway, speed limit 55, at about 35 in freezing rain/snow/ice pellets. It was straight and flat, and there was about 1-2" of frozen stuff on the road. Visibility was low.

I suddenly saw the vehicle in the middle of the road in front of me. It was stopped and sideways. I won't ever forget the big "O"s that the driver and rear seat passenger had on their faces as I got closer. I hit the brakes but with the icy roads I didn't even slow down and braced for impact. The driver finally gave his car the gas and ran into the median; our vehicles missed by a couple feet at most. I was sure I was going to send both of them to the hospital.

Re: Had the biggest scare of my life this morning

Most of my really close childhood friends have died in tragic accidents over the past 10 years. So when my best friend was sent to Tikrit, Iraq around Christmas time 2 years ago I was thinking "this is fucking GREAT". Six weeks pass and I get a message from my secretary saying his mother called, call her as soon as possible, it's an EMERGENCY. So now I'm thinking I'm fresh out of good friends- he's dead for sure. I call her up, completely bugging out...

She tells me she just wanted to give me an address in Iraq so I could send packages. It was very urgent due to the fact that packages take a while to get out to the units, and she wanted to make sure he got them before he came home. Jesus...

Re: Had the biggest scare of my life this morning

Probably the biggest scare of my life was when I was driving to work one morning...

I usually make an effort to dim my lights asap when I see someone coming my way instead of making sure I'm ready for a turn or whatever...

so I was driving down this steep incline with a sharp turn and I had my brights on, a car came the other way and I quickly dimmed, but then I had to turn to avoid the car... I had overcorrected and I swerved to the other side again, back to the other and then finally corrected myself for the rest of the way down.

One of the few times I'm glad I have FWD and that I remain calm when im not in control. The roads were wet.

Re: Had the biggest scare of my life this morning

hmm I can't remember, I guess I haven't had a moment when I was very very scared. All of my grandparents have died except for one grandmother, and we don't speak often b/c we speak different languages. No scary moments here yet...

Re: Had the biggest scare of my life this morning

back in 1997, I was driving a 1994 Mustang GT, turning onto a highway offramp. THere was construction on the ramp, and I will admit, I was gunning it up the ramp. I went over the white line breifly, and I still to this day have no clue what was on the ground, but the passengers rear tire shredded on something, I went into a spin, and the car slid down the drivers side embankment and slid off one of this concrete storm drain entrances. I am lucky the car didnt roll, or worse. my friend was with me, and she was kinda shaken up, but not to bad. I ended up shearing the rear tire off from the axleand there was quite a bit of damage to the underbody from grinding over the concrete at an angle. all in all about 2500 dollars worth of damage. and insurance dropped me. Ever since then, my pretty reckless days of driving are over.

Or completely missing it while on bc too... thats scary shit

I think the scariest thing for me though was about 2yrs ago my husband was flying over a certain country and I was listening to cnn in the afternoon while cleaning the house or something and I hear that the same type of plane that he's on had crashed, over the same country. Needless to say I was pretty freakin scared that it was him. Its not a country his planes fly over daily and stuff at least to my knowledge. I was probably the happiest person in the world when he called me that night. I completely thought he was on that plane though. Whats the chances?
