Climate blower only works in high

I was reading SeaSides problem with the blower motor. If you look up the history for these cars, it is a fairly common problem. Mine only works in high mode. Anybody know a fix.

I all of the sudden have the same problem with my 87 TurboCoupe.

I had a replacement switch, and replaced it but no help. That one didnt turn on the fan at all. So I guess high is better than none.

The only other option it could be is a resistor or the relay that the switch goes too.

Ya, I'm thinking resistor, that's what it was in my Sentra with the same problem. If you get yours fixed, let me know what you did.

Thanks.

Did replacing the resister solve the problem? I have a 93 that developed the same problem yesterday, heater blower works only on high. How hard is it to replace or will a dealer have to do it. What kind of price is the resister? Do I have to get at the dealer or do most auto parts carry it?

Re: Climate blower only works in high

replacing the resistor on my 89 TBird was very simple. it was bolted directly below the blower. the only thing is i couldnt get it at an autoparts store, i had to order it from ford.....

Re: Climate blower only works in high

Do you have the plain AC/Heater with the blower switch that has set levels (low-high) or the Semi-Automatic Temp Control where the blower speed is variable? If it's the plain one then the problem is with either the switch or the resistor assembly. If you have SATC then the problem is with either the blower motor speed controller or the SATC module. If you have SATC let me know and I'll tell you how to run the diagnostic test on it.

I have the SATC. Picked up a resister at the local dealer but got the wrong one. He didn't ask if I had SATC and I didn't think to say. Have to order the blower speed controller. Don't stock it. If there is a way to test the controller I'd like to know. Thanks in advance.

Re: Climate blower only works in high

At the top right of the main page of this forum there is a search box. Type in blower and wait for the results. On the first page of the results there will be a thread titled heater 94 t-bird. Scroll down through this thread to find my reply about the self test. On the second page there is a thread titled This is a good one. I told how to check the module in this one.
