Sound System SPL

what is SPL when people talk about stereos and systems.... i just am getting into sound systems right now..... and want to "test" my SPL.. but i need to know what it is first

what kind of system do you have?

its a mix and match system.. pioneer deck, pioneer 3 way 6 1/2's in the front, 4 way 6/9's in the back, two sony 12's in seperate q logic boxes, powered by 1000w 4 channel ppi amp, and a majestic 800w for the subs

I've got Boss Audio 3-way 6x9s, Boss Audio 2-way 4x6s, Kenwood Excelon cd/mp3 player, two Audiobahn subs (no box so they aren't hooked up yet), and a pyle 1400watt 2 channel amp. I'm not sure if I want to save and get some nice rims or get some JL W-7s or Kicker Solobaric L7s.

thats a nice set up.. id save up for the rims.. since you allready have subs

SPL is for comps,not something you would want to listen to all the time.Having too much bass tends to sound like your in a fish bowel.Music is not ment to be heard like this.Although having your hair dance on your head is cool.

spl isnt for comps, its a measurement of the sound pressure level. they use it in competitions to measure.. you can also use it to tune your frequency's for maximum sound in all degree's not just bass

Yes but most measure bass with it.Why? I don't know.Just like kids talking about DBs and how high it is.Whoa! DBs isn't nothing but a noise measurement.And this measurement is used at comps too.
