cupholder ideas/suggestions?

In my 89 CRX there are no stock cupholders and no console to put stuff in. I want a cupholder (or two, but I'll settle for one), but I don't want one of those ugly ones that goes in the air vent, or a gaudy Walmart brand "Type R/S/X" one that you put on your dash with double sided tape.

Anyone here ever custom made a cupholder or mounted one that's out of the way and fairly stock looking?

EDIT:I'm thinking the ashtray compartment area might work. I'll look into that too.

Thanks,
Nate

Re: cupholder ideas/suggestions?

Just wait a month or so and buy one from from me, will come in fiberglass, kevlar, kevlar/carbon hybrid, and carbon fiber. They will have two cup holders and a compartment to store cds and other stuff in, and an option for a padded arm rest.

what i do that works perfectly for me is when i get a 44 oz cup i put it on my left side between me and the door and the seat... fits snugly there no matter how much i throw the wheel around.... Works like a charm..... i do ride with my seat all the way back tho considering im 6'3" so i dunno how well itll work with the seats in any other positions.

Re: cupholder ideas/suggestions?

Do the GSR console swap like Hybrid said or wait until TheSilentChamber has finished his cushy custom console. In the meantime, do what I do, put the drink between your e-brake handle and the seat.

Do you have any pictures of how they're going to look?

Re: cupholder ideas/suggestions?

Why would you want one anyways? Driving is a task by itself, you don't need to be doing anything else while driving. It's because of people multi-tasking and not paying attention why we have speed limits. Nobody multi-tasks on the autobahn.

why would I want a cupholder? Are you serious? Wouldn't having a cupholder be the safe option? A lot safer than holding a cup of coffee between my knees while I'm shifting and my legs are moving around.

By your philosophy, I hope you've never had any passengers, or talked in your car. Those are distractions too. Come to think of it, I hope you have no radio or clock, those are the real killers.

Re: cupholder ideas/suggestions?

I only have a radio. I don't have passangers. And yes, I do drive well over the limit, but I still drive safer than the people who multitask

Re: cupholder ideas/suggestions?

lol thats funny, multitasking - driving is multitasking - keeping the speed down, looking around whats in front of you and behind you, keeping alert at all times...

anyway, Silent will your console fit the 4-doors too? Can't wait to see some photos
