2001 service engine soon light
I've got a 2001 s-10, 4wd, ext. cab, 4.3, 5speed with about 79000 miles on it. About 9000 miles ago the service engine soon light came on and has stayed on.
I took it to autozone and they said they couldn't read that specific code. I then got a our mechanic at work to test the thing and it came secondary air intake system (code was 0400 or 0410??). He didn't really have a clue where to start, said it could be anything. You guys have any ideas before I take it to a dealer. Thanks, Casey |

Re: 2001 service engine soon light
get a repair manual to see how the secondary air injection system works. if you dont know how it works it is hard to repair. chiltons or haynes manuals have diagnostic steps you can follow to repair the problem. i would have to say there is a faulty vacuum valve. check the valve and make sure it holds vacuum. if its a solenoid, check the solenoid and make sure it clicks. also, there are times when carbon buildup cloggs the valve and related parts . remove the carboned up parts and clean them.

Air injection system has condensation in it.

Re: 2001 service engine soon light
This appears to be a common problem due to the location of the pump. If it comes back on, you may want to remove the pump and dry it out. Also, there is a 30 AMP (I think) fuse located in the engine compartment for this.
