Angry 91 cavalier engine stalls or stops

My car is 91 chevy cavalier 3.1 v6. it has the engine stalling or stop problem. this problem always comes with 15~20 mins driving. engine stalls or stops when apply the break or slow down to traffic light. I got check engine light, check gasge light, and battery light on. sometimes I can restart it up right away, but sometimes I must wait about 2~3 mins to restart it up. I took it to two different repair shops and GMC dealer to inspect this problem but they had no any solution. i always add fuel injection cleaner but it won't help.

TPS has been replaced
IAC has been replaced
TCC has been replaced
all the hoses are connecting properly

Any suggestion, please help me .................is Crankshaft position sensor failure

Re: 91 cavalier engine stalls or stops

i have the exact same problem with my 91 z24

it might be the crankshaft position sensor but i just had mine replaced and it did nothing. actually its been stalling more since that. i have done everything that has been suggested on any and every forum about 91 z24 stalling and have yet to find the answer

good luck, let me know if u get it figured out

Re: 91 cavalier engine stalls or stops

I have an '89 Cavalier that did the same thing to me once. There is a good chance it could be your torque converter solenoid (small part - I think its actually part of the transmission and relatively cheap).

Re: 91 cavalier engine stalls or stops

You can unplug the TCC an you will find out - most people that have the problem which is common with the TCC unplug it rather than replacing it - its safe doesnt damage anything an will most likely solve your problem - if u unplug it an u still have problems then its not your TC

I'd go with this too. Get underneath and look at the tranny. There is a plug (electrical) on it. That's it!

what about head gaskets? maybe there's a hole(s) or a leak in the gaskets area.

Try putting in rubber pellets to fix the leak. You get them from auto stores.

It could be the crank shaft failure, but I doubt it. I could also be your alternator, since the battery light is coming on while you're driving. Or it could be both, but hardly.

The crankshaft sensor only dictates the central computer which plug to spark. As you're saying, you get this problem while driving, so your spark timing is ok. The only time a battery light would appear is when your alternator is not feeding the electricity to the battery while the car is running.

The lights are coming on because the engine has stalled, as simple as that. If the igniton is switched on and the engine stops all of these lights WILL light up!

oops! sorry 'bout that. Yea you're right about that. then in that case, I would narrow it down to the crankshaft sensor and the head gasket.
