thinking of buying a crx

after reading up on how "easy" it is to make a crx a decently quick car with an b16a engine swap i thought this may be a cheap way ( only way acceptable) to buy my first car.. considering that this will be a 10year or older car i should get an insurance discount right?.. so how bad would insurance be since im only 18?.. it would be considered a sport coupe no?.. currently im driving a 1990 isuzu pup.. so i doubt ill get as good of an insurance rate.. if u think i should be looking at something different buying my first car suggestions are welcome

Re: thinking of buying a crx

It depends on where you live and what your current driving record looks like. Any CRX will be at least 13 years old.

Re: thinking of buying a crx

I'm 17 with one ticket (65 in 55) and after getting a bunch of discounts because it's on my parents insurance, it only costs me $95/month, and that's including a 30% increase from the ticket.

Re: thinking of buying a crx

I say if you plan on doing a swap anyways pick up an hf, itll be lighter, not much, but like i said might as well if your just gonna swap out the engines, every bit counts...........

Re: thinking of buying a crx

I have an HF and I like it 'cause it's lighter than the others, but don't get it unless you are for sure you are going to get a motor swap 'cause it's slow asa hell stock. And just don't think you can crap a b16 in there, there is no "easy" to it. I hope you are doing the whole swap yourself, 'cause if not it's gonna cost double the price you're gonna pay for the car I can tell you that. Just for the parts your looking at $1500. But good choice anyway I love CRX's! If you are up north or on the beach, make sure you get one with no rust or a little as possible, the most famous spots are around the rear quarter panels and back end.

It depends on what you want? If you just want a sports car to play with then get an HF with a swap that's tuned right with suspension and limited comfort mods. Remember it isn't lighter anymore if you add shit to it... ex. big system or big rims. If you want a car with compartments for crap and a sunroof (note: CRX sunroofs are solid and angle out of the roof like many sport coupes unlike the roll under glass roofs). Also, the Si is a nice car stock so a few mods can make it fast. I had a rebuilt stock engine with high compression and it was awesome. I didn't give a crap about swaps or anything with it and I drove it everyday with a system, and rallied it beating the crap out of it until it blew the engine and caught on fire. Still rolling in it with new Si engine with some bolt-ons. The DX is a good "in-between" car cuz I believe they have A/C (like the Si) but are slow with the DPFI 1.5L but with a nice swap you have a decent ride that is street capable. Check e-bay or autotrader to find one.
