Whine and seat switch

I have a few things...I hear a high pitch whine only at like 1000 RPM and it seems to be more noticeable when it is cold. Anyone have any idea what this could be. Also my drivers side seat switch quit working the other day, but it is just the bottom of the seat control that does not work, the recline, lumbar, heat and memory all work perfectly. Has anyone just have the one part of the switch go one them...Also any information on getting that switch out, I have experience with removing door panels but from what i remember from putting my component speakers in it is pretty hard to get to where the those switches are.

Thanks.

Re: Whine and seat switch

With respect to your seat controls issue - if you have not done so already, I'd suggest close inspection of the wire harness btwn the door and car body. I had a few similiar problems & after reading some threads on this forum, found that my problem was several broken wires inside the rubber boot going from the door to car body. If this is this case it's tight working conditions but fairly easy to repair. Good Luck!

Hey there.... about the whine. Is it there when cold mostly, and when you accelerate it gets a little higher in pitch then goes away when you get to around 1800 RPM or so...maybe a little lower? I'm experiencing a similar problem and it's most likely an intake leak. The intake has it's highest amount of vacuum when at idle, so it wants to suck air in too. I was actually just out looking at mine, cuz it's been doing it for about a year now.....I think the lean fuel/air mix it causes has negative effects on plug wear/detonation also. I jumped online to see if anyone else has the problem and what they did. I think mine is leaking in the indentatio on the side of intake that is on the passenger side, by the power steering pump.

maybe that will help you out

Thank you both for replying.

For the wires in the door jam I heard it was a common problem for the wires to get chaffed. I am planning on checking it out in a few days when I go home for thanksgiving break from school. Is there an easy way to take the boot off of the door? I can handle fixing a broken connection, but I know those boots can be tough. Any tips would be helpful.

As for the whine I am hearing what you are explaining is what is happening with my car. It has just kind of started after I installed my cold air intake so it may leak because of that?? How does it make the fuel/air mix ratio lean? How does that make an effect on the fuel economy?

Thanks.

If your at idle you don't need all the air b/c your not really burning much fuel...but since there is a leak in the intake, your getting some extra air in and then have a lower fuel/air ratio. It's not real good for plugs as they run hot in lean conditions, causing them to foul. And yes....this can have adverse affects on gas mileage.

See if you can find where the leak is. Use some cups of water and pour them around the intake and see if the noise stops. It could be something more related to the new CAI..but I really don't know.
