Resonator
Hey whats up guys? Have any of you running stock engines removed your resonators? Is it worth it? I know you have to remove it when running any aftermarket CAI's. Hit me up let me know...Thanks

Removing the intake resonator really only makes your stock intake system sound louder, that's about it. You WON'T get any power/hp gains from it unless you throw a K&N filtercharger drop-in air filter into your airbox to replace the crappy stock paper filter element with. I did that with my '00 Civic before I got my short ram intake, and I liked the effect it had on the car, it didn't do as much for me as when I put my intake on, but you'll definitely notice a difference in the sound, it'll be a little deeper, and it'll be a bit louder, but nothing like getting an actual intake system. I'd say go for it and take off the resonator, but GET a K&N drop-in filter too to complete the effect. The filter will give you a little better throttle response.

it does help to lower your under hood temperature though. cooler air=more h.p. so you tell me? yes it will help don't expect a drastic change though and it also saves weight too.

silverY2kcivic....you have a short ram? cool. how do you like it. i have been debating betwen CAI and short ram. i always thought the quicker you could get more air to the intake the better. what is your opinion on it, and what brand do you have....oh yeah...whats a resonator..hehehe and where is it

I took my resonator off yesterday. Hey might as well take it off now since im gonna get the aem cai. But yea it sounds alot better. I'll probably get the K&N soon, i'm looking for that better throttle response

Yep, get it out. I removed it and with a K&N filter there definetely IS a small difference performance wise + deeper sound.
Just be sure that the intake box gets the cool air out of the resonater box area. |

The resonator is the big black box that is connected to your stock intake system, the resonator simply quiets down the air flow/turbulence going into your intake, so you don't hear it very much. In all actuality, it's just dead weight in your car, and doesn't do anything for hp or power weather it's on or off. It's usually located (in Hondas) on the front most passenger side of the engine bay. Hope that helps you out.

i took my stock airbox off my stock pipe and put an apc intimidator cone filter on it, and took out the resonator in the fender well. it was a pain taking that thing out, i had take it out through the bottom of the fender by removing the plastic stuff. i like the nice deep growling sound it gave me and i noticed a little more power difference, then i got my exhaust on and could notice a big improvement in throttle response.
