Angry Burning Plastic??

HELP!

I have a '98 Ford Contour - My heat blower works sparadically - I can hear it blowing into the console sometimes if it is not blowing out of the vents - then this morning it was running odd - I don't really know how to explain it but I could hear clunking maybe? - When I got to work I noticed a strong plastic burning smell and opened the hood - smoke was coming from the passenger side of the engine - suggestions?

I think this may be a FOrd recall HOWEVER - I have talked to Ford and they deny this - HELP!!

UPDATE!
I have found out that my AC compressor seized up - I am hoping that I can bypass it by getting a smaller - shorter belt - anyone ever done this?

Re: Burning Plastic??

If it's the Zetec, The A/C compressor isn't very hard to change.. Gettin it off is about the hardest part. 2-3 hour job max. I've replaced mine before.
