Known Problems and Recalls on 2001???

any known recalls or problems I should prepare myself for? Seems since the warranty ran out, little bugs are showing up that shouldn't, like:

1. starter
2. oil consumption higher than normal (PCV need replaced?)
3. positive battery post corroded like a car with 100k miles (only has 38k)
4. Service indicator lights coming on all the friggin time
5. fuel rail regulator leak

This is a nice, well maintained, not driven hard car I like a lot.

Re: Known Problems and Recalls on 2001???

I did a recall search last month for '01se, only thing so far that I've come across is on the manual transmission. Apparently the reverse lockout to the ignition key tends to fail leaving you incapable of removing the ignition key. Mine is automatic so it didn't apply to me. I'm sure there must be a number of "internal" recalls for them though. ie, GM won't inform customers of certain recalls because they aren't a safety related item (prime example is the j-body of the late 90's with messed up starters), but if a customer comes in with a problem that has been flagged by GM then they will perform the necessary fix.

This is a thread from grandamgt.com - a great grand am site. It's a list of a bunch of recalls, but i'm not sure what's for what model / year. I guess just keep your eyes peeled for things on the list that might apply to you.

Here's a link to the government safety site to search for recalls. Just type in your cars year and modeal and trim, and it will tell you all the recalls applicable to your car. Note, your car may have been produced after a certain date, thus some recalls may not apply to you.
