Unhappy car altonator problems

im new to this forum i love my jetta but it has a problem i whet to the auto store because the battery went dead they told me it was the altonator they ran a test and said it was only putting out about 12volts so i put a new one on the car drove it home and the battery still went dead and the car wont start i know the battery is good it will take a charge alos about three or four days ago the bat light started to flicker on and off and the car just died for a few seconds coming off the highway please help thanks merick

1992 Jetta? Check the alternator plug connector, it is very common to corrode & make poor connection. Frequently people will cut the end off & replace with individual crimp type connectors.
