ford explorer gas conversoin

hi all I have just purchased one of these motors s reg 1999, and with living in the uk and the cost of fuel over here I am thinking of having a gas conversion, my question is does anyone know of any problems with doing this has anyone you know had it done and how does it perform, any information on this subject would be gratefully appreciated

I have had an explorer for the past year and have thought about converting it to LPG. The advice I have recieved, is to do the maths carefully. It can cost anything up to 2000 pounds to get a good job done, and unless you cover an awful lot of miles, or you are going to keep it for a long time, it won't pay for itself. Also it won't be too long before the government here unfreezes the tax on LPG, and the price per litre will, no doubt, rocket.
I have also been told that they don't like to be gassed, but despite this, you do see a lot of the conversions around. Be careful though, there are a lot of cowboys out there, and it would be a waste if they ruined your motor for you.
The way around the price rise is to have your own tank at your home( to run your central heating of course!), that way you don't pay tax, but that is your choice!
Here is another piece of friendly advice on a different issue with the explorer. They suffer badly from emf interference to the immobaliser system. If you use the M4 at all, never stop at Membury services. The signal that is emmitted from the large mast there is strong enough to render your key fob usless, and once the system arms, you cannot deactivate it, and you can't start the car. The cure apparently is to wrap the immobaliser in tin foil to shield it. You can find the box in the boot on the left hand side, just behind the back seat, behind the panel.
