Do I need a new radio??? The factory installed is set up for cd, it was just not sold with a cd player.?! It is the normal looking radio w/ cass player and cd buttons... but no cd player??? Thanks. LW |

Re: I need a cd changer for wife's 98 stock sable
they did produce sable radios with CD controls and no cd changer, this was to save money, one can be added pretty simply.

I just added a 6 CD changer to my 2001 Sable. I bought it from Crutchfield. It was 249.00 and included all of the hardware necessary to do the install. It was really a plug-and -play as far as the electronics. It installed easily in the trunk area and plugged into the receiver, which is located in the trunk in those vehicles. Drilling the holes and mounting the player was the most time consuming thing, as the wires were connected in about 3 minutes. It works from your radio control on the control panel if you have a CD button. Crutchfield offers lifetime tech support for no extra charge, and they have detailed instructions that you can even view online before you make a decision to purchase. The website is www.crutchfield.com. The toll-free number is 800-955-9091. I don't work for them, but they made this job pretty easy for me. I did a lot of research with several sources before I bought anything. I would suggest mounting it horizontally at the top of the trunk for several reasons. Let me know how it goes if you use this!

Try Best Buy or Circuit City, they may show what models are compatible.

I tried Circuit City, HHGregg, and Best Buy in the course of my research. They all had multi CD changers, but none were compatible with the plug in the factory receiver in the trunk of the Sable, but would work through the receiver as a wireless application. I am sure that they are fine quality changers. The only thing that made me not purchase one of them was that I didnt want to have an extra remote control to keep track of, whereas with the factory-compatible unit the buttons for the CD changer control were already part of the control assembly built into the car. I really prefer to look at something before I buy as well, so that was one reason to at least check out the big-box stores.

My wife had a ZX2 "craponwheels" that had one mounted in a really in the way spot. I am hoping to mount this one closer to the seats and hopefully out of the way?. Oh and thanks for the cruchfield link. Duh- I didn't even think of them for some reason? I must be getting old and forgetful........what was I saying.... |
