Unhappy Fuel light always on???

Hello.

I am new to this forum. I have been reading past questions and find some useful hints.
I just bought a 91 Grand Prix LE. I have a question about the fuel low warning light. When I first got the car there was 3/4 full and the light was on. So I filled the tank and the light and the guage worked properly. The next day when I started the car and the light was on but the guage still showed a full tank. I first thought of the float, but why does the guage work ok. Is light and fuel guage from same wire? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tried resoldering IC on instrument board. Still have the fuel light on. Figured IC bad. Found another instrument cluster, removed odometer from old one and put in second cluster. Now the fuel and temperature light is always on. Also the odometer works occasionally and when it does its not accurate. Are these clusters known for doing this or could there be another problem? Any help would be appreciated. Cluster doesn't have the tach feature.

Would like to know if I could use the cluster with the tach and gauges in place of old one. Does anyone know if this would work?
