Lightbulb If you import them, they will come...

From perusing the local threads, I realize I am not the only one around on this board without a Skyline. I have read a lot the past few days, something I should have done before I made a few stupid remarks on this and other boards (freshalloy.com). I now realize the full extent to which a Skyline must be modified to be US legal. However, I am still very against paying Motorex a minimum of 18,000 for a street legal skyline, especially given the prices overseas. What I suggest is this: why not group together some guys on this and other skyline sites to become a collective RI? My main concern is this: crash testing. I have been led to believe that a RI must crash test a few Skylines to be able to know what must be done to them to be acceptable to crash standards. Why not simply give a legal Skyline a thorough inspection to discover what was done by Motorex? "Classified structural modifications" are understandeably closely guarded. Why not have a few of you guys with Motorex Skylines post some pics of the frame, seat brackets, dash, etc? Especially if you are in the process of rebuilding one, stripping, etc? ANd then compare that to the number of unmodified, off-road, race, show, display, etc. vehicles? Compare and contrast? To those without Skylines/illegal ones, help each other out? And to those who have gone through Motorex, paid the outrageous fees, I would understand if you refused to help. But look at it this way: do you want your Skyline forever? Or would you be willing to change up, colors, transmission, body style, options, etc? If so, you would again have to pay the price through Motorex. This can be done, let's do it!!

Re: If you import them, they will come...

although this has been thought of before, i dont know if it would work. we actually have some of the crash test data stickied up top, but ive heard that most of that information is proprietary...and is useless.

but listen to this...you think we can just go into a legalize skyline and be able to tell what was and what wasnt done? youd need a person that knows the skyline like the back of their hand....and anyone with a legalized skyline isnt just going to let you lift up the skirt and take it apart. if by some chance we figured out exactly what needed to be done....wed still need to prove that the modifications we made, met us requirements...meaning wed need to shell out the cash for 3 different cars just so we can crash them....and i dont know about yourself, or any other member on here...but i dont exactly have 30 grand lying around to blow on 3 cars just so we can crash them.

We've got a few around who claim to know them as well as you state. BTW, i hear M-Rex only crashed 1 car: a gts-t m type, the cheapest. I can't remember exactly which standard it was, but J.K. Motors/Enterprises didn't even test for one...i can't honestly remember, they just stated through fact that it would do. I can't figure out what they would have done, other than frame strengthening, door strengthening, and dash strengthening. This could be done, conceivably, especially for less that the prices M-Rex wants to charge. Also, there are many people around on this forum and others, who are in Japan, where there are many Skylines untouched. Pics would be appreciated of the undercarriage of these! Also, for legit Skys in the US (post- M-Rex), post some pics, PLEASE!

Yes, they used the same car for left and right, and separate for front and back (very simplified). But what about M-Rex? Or did they simply buy the info from J.K.?
