I am a newby and needing some help with our 1996 ford taurus wagon. We purchased it back in July of this year from a used car dealer. It's a good car, but it has some problems. We had noticed that everytime it get's to about half a tank full of gas, it stalls when trying to drive. It does it when we push on the gas, give it a few moments, and it straighten s out only to do it again after we come to another stop. We fill it up, and it seems to be fine till it gets to a half of a tan or lower again. Now that's the first problem we have had. Here's the next one and it's wierd. ![]() About a month ago it was low on oil. So my hubby be the oil in. It has a check engine light on, runs a little rough now, and of coarse it still stalls as well like always when it's half full. But the light blinks at times. no rhym in it, can't count it. Then at times it's just on. We have been told we need to pay $55 to get any service shop who is able, to get the codes out. I just haven't been able to afford that, but do know we need to. I was hoping with car doctors as yourselves are, maybe you could all help in determining the illness by the symtoms. ![]() AS well can anyone tell me how I may be able to convert the tape payer radio system into a cd player radio system, and where to go to find one, that won't tear apart the bubble like frame, and can we do it ourselves, or are there sensors under there and it's better to leave the risk alone? ![]() Thank you |

First thing i would do is replace the fuel filter for your stalling problem. It sound like it may be clogged, or the tank has some gunk in it.. If that does not help the fuel pump may be failing slowly. Second, check the oil again. Make sure its at the right level, and NOT over filled. Over filling is as bad as not having oil. When its too full, the oil can froth up and almost stop flowing. That could be your engine light, but to be sure you can take the car to Autozone parts store. They read engine codes for free. Make sure you write them down, there may be a few of them. Now about the radio. The round radio panel is actually a control panel for a radio that is located in the trunk. THere are adapters that will allow one to install a new aftermarket radio in the dash, but the wires have to be run back to the trunk. Sort of a pain. You can go to Crutchfield.com, they will show you what you need. Let us know what the codes are for the engine so we can help some more.
