making a Air intake

Any one know how or a web site to make a air intake to get ride of the factory mess? or dont they really make any differnence in the performace/fuel mileage area?

what year is your car?
performance - depends on your car/other mods but improves slightly either way
gas mileage - probably not
if you want a cold air box intake, you should probably buy 1 because its easier unless you are handy and have access to some materials. here are some links for these

i've seen people make them out of PVC pipe and attach a K&N filter. But i havent seen any how-to pictures
