Anybody else have corrosion on brake lines?

My '00 has a fair amount of rust on the brake lines. Has anyone else seen this? How can you tell how much is too much. I hate to think how much it would cost to have all of the brake lines replaced.....

Re: Anybody else have corrosion on brake lines?

I have a 2001 1500HD and I am having the same problem. I replaced a small portion of brake line on the rear driver side. It was spraying everywhere from 3 pin holes. I bled the brakes and took it on a test drive and when I returned, another brake line up front along the frame sprung a leak! A mechanic told me they break down from the inside and that just because they look bad from the outside, doesn't mean they will start leaking.??? All my lines look like they need replaced!

here in new england we have these vehicles at 5yrs old with brake lines rusting out. some have to replace the rear line every 3 yrs. especially next to the fuel tank the line will rust thru.

the other area is the driverside wheel well. if these lines are not protected by a shield and some brush on fiber reinforced rust proofing material they will all need replacing..

I installed a piece of rubber roofing and extended the inner fender down 3 inches to protect these lines and the other components under the vehicle, both sides.

lines can be purchased with a better coating than the GM oem lines as built. these GM lines are a defective line because the lines are made of metal that corrodes too rapidly. my 1996 does not have these line corrosion issues but the 2000 sure does.
