Porting/Polishing head

I was reading up on this and a machene shop says it can give you up to a 100hp gain. Is this a good idea to have done to my d16y8? heres the link to it http://www.importperformanceparts.ne...ting_flat.html

Re: Porting/Polishing head

port and polishing gives you 100 hp?!?!?! No, I don't think so.

I believe that's 100hp along with nitrous, not alone.

Is it worth it?

Sounds interesting, I have the same engine as you. It’s my dally ride, and I’m wondering if it would be a nice compliment to my Edelbrock intake manifold that’s been laying around for months? What type of increase in HP would I expect? Is it worth taking the head off?

Re: Porting/Polishing head

the thing w/ porting and polishing a head, is the gains all depend on the quality of the head before this was done. Now w/ Honda heads and most other Japanese motors, porting and polishing doesn't really give u a huge power gain. they r already very close to maximum effiency, especially Honda. so it might not even be worth it. now if u had an american muscle car head to get ported and polished, then u could possibly get a huge gain from it, because they weren't made w/ air flow in mind. they just used huge pistons and displacement to make up for it. there intake ports weave around head bolts and such, and not all the same lengths. the whole idea behind porting and polishing the head is to make a straighter path for the air to flow straight to te back of the intake valve. so if u looked in a Honda head, it's about as straight as they can get. port matching the head to the intake manifold and the exhaust header (if u have one) is a good idea, but not gonna give u 100 hp gain. just tryin to save u a disappointment

I probably won’t even do it then. Maybe I'll do the port matching when and if I get my exhaust header, and when I get around to putting in the Edelbrock intake manifold. Maybe.

Thanks honda_luvr!
