Question help! getting perspective right on a car that exists only in my head...

look at my sig. See that BMW-Lexi project I am kind of but not really working on? Yeah. Well, I've got this mental picture of what I want the car to look like, and I can draw the car from a head-on viewpoint very nicely, but can't seem to get an accurately depicted elevated view or side angle view. I'm a pretty good artist (ok, much better than average artist), and know all about vanishing points and other technical aspects, but I just can't seem to get it quite right. I can draw from an existing picture very well, but how can I get this accurately from my head to the paper? I need advice from a pro. Any tips?

Biggest thing is just look at pictures from all different angles. Draw them over and over again. That will help you get a feel for how roof lines arch, fender wells shape differently, and other aspects are affected by perspective.

Here are a couple tutorials:

Tut 1
Tut 2

Like I said though, practice with what you can see, then try it from your head. Youll get the hang of it!

I tried to draw that picture once. Never turned out right. Yours looks sweet though!

you could base the shape of the car from a real life car, since you said you can draw from photos well. from there, just add the details and stuff from the concept in your head

Use a Box. Draw a box to find the angle of your car, then, look at a pictue of the car. It doesn't have to be the same angle. Just look for the details, and then start sketching out the car in the box. It should in theory work. Give it a try.
