Grab your clickers!

Was clickin around last night and came across some show where they give 2 teams of 2 guys 2 of the same car (old mustangs in this case), let them do whatever they want to do/can do in a 20 hr time frame all with the intent of drag racing the 2 cars. Team that builds the winning car wins both cars. Very cool show.

Well...anyway...this wed at 9pm on the Discovery Channel...I'm sure I'll be glued to the tube and I'm sure you guys will get a kick out of it, too...they're doing Grand Nationals on this episode...

Should be able to build some VERY fast cars...the mustangs were kinda slow...winning car ran...like...a 15 or something...maybe slower...I don't remember exactly...nothing phenomenal...and one of them blew up.

Re: Grab your clickers!

lol...too much nitrous...guess those guys only won one car...

CORRECTION...it's on the History Channel...my bad. It's called Full Throttle. It's featuring the 85 GN...I'm kinda excited to see what they're gunna do...obviously up the boost, but it'll be cool. About damn time one of these shows uses/features a car of interest!

Re: Grab your clickers!

Just watched it...not as good as I thought it would be.

I was wondering why they were putting an I/C in...coulda sworn they came with one. Fastest car ran a mid 14...not really all that fast...I know they have much more potential. This show was also different than the last one. They got 2 days instead of 20 hrs and both teams did the same mods...kinda defeats the point of the show.

There was some WICKED ass footage of some GNs at drag strips doing CRAZY wheel stands, though. THAT was cool. One looked like the damn car was gunna do like a motorcycle and flip over backwards due to too much torque. Also, they went through the history of the GN and that was interesting.

I'd still love to get a GN. Always thought they were cool...not much to look at, but I'm more of a function over form person anyway.

86-87 is the only year that the GN's came intercooled. The 85 and older GN's where fast but not nearly as moddable. The reason the one car failed is because the stock fuel pumps and the wiring cannot take the extra current drawn by increasing the fuel pressure. That is why one of the first mods you should do is to run a 10 gauge power wire to the pump and replace the stock pump with at least a walbro 340. That and they where only running 15 PSI. They should of used Alcohol injection. They should of had me as one of the crew cheifs....

They did not do too bad considering the drivers had to be told how the chrismas tree works and they had hot air cars.

Re: Grab your clickers!

They didn't do horribly, I guess...but you also have to think...it's a lot easier to drag an AT than a manual, so they didn't really have to do much. Just had to not redlight and not nuke the tires off the line.

Well...now I know to look for an 87 or newer car when/if I ever look for one.

That footage of GNs at strips was cool as hell, huh?

yes, racing an automaic is easier but, to get a good launch with the cars, you have to build boost. the trick is being at the right boost level when the go light comes on.

87 was the last year

Re: Grab your clickers!

True true. I'd want a trans brake on mine...seems like it would make launching MUCH easier and MUCH more consistant.

I missed the show but caught a later one with an el camino Vs. a ranchero. It was ok but I agree they are building em kind of slow for the track. THEY CALL THEMSELVES TURBO TWINS!? Not picking the 86-87 Nattys shows lack of Knowledge or a false attemp to make imports look superior on national TV.The paint jobs are lackluster for a TV show .maybe they;ve got small budgets.
Anyways It was still nice 2 hear a GN was on a show. Doesnt seem like TV wants to reckognize a true 80's musclecar. I'd love to see Chip Foose Overhaulin A regal Gn or T-TYpe.Wouldnt mind seeing one Pimped by Xzibit/MTV either. A GN buildup on Horsepower TV ...Heaven.
Ill keep dreamin out loud maybe someone'll hear me.

The only reason they used the 84-85 cars was the 5000 dollar limit they had on each car. Those guys done alot of things wrong. They did not upgrade the fuel pumps...yet they installed 50lb injectors, they never changed the chip, they were forced to run on 93 octane so that in turn kept the boost low, they never even tuned the cars at all before going to the track. Those cars could have run those times stock!!! The good part is people will believe thats what they actually run!!!
