it is cold and now I have a hard start

ok well I have a 92 S10 Blazer Vin Z 4.3 TBI. I have been searching the forum for ideas as to why I am having a starting problem. My status is this. I can start it fine in the warm but now that it is cold it will take soemtiems up to 4 trys to start it. Other times I may have to even push the gas a little. I thought at first it might be my injector but tonight I found in a thread that if it was an injector I should be blowing black smoke when I idle. But I'm not. So my thoughts are that I may be just dirty injectors or maybe my fuel pressure is too low. I don't know how to check it but I have a garage here that will do it for free or maybe $7 fee. But before I ask them to start checking thigns I wanted to see what everyone else thinks. I also have not been able to drive as fast on the highway so this to my thoughts backs up that it may be fuel pump or pressure related.

1.) Do a full Tuneup.
2.) Check your battery voltage.
3.) Have you ever changed the fuel filter?

Re: it is cold and now I have a hard start

fuel filter was changed within the past month. I really don't think it is my battery b/c it does start and I had a new battery put in this past summer. What does a tune up actually do that might help my problem?

Re: it is cold and now I have a hard start

ok well did some research and I guess I need to include more data here. I have changed my oil, coolant fluid, and put in new spark plugs about a week or so ago. So should I still do a tune up? From what I understand I already have. But I am thinking maybe I should since I had done the work myself before. I need some suggestions please because the garage is only open about another 2 or 3 weeks. It is a college shop that is why it is cheap and only open that long yet. Thanks.

Re: it is cold and now I have a hard start

Get your cap, rotor, ignition wires, fuel + air filters swapped in addition to what you have done. Check also to make sure you did not crack one or more spark plugs when getting them back in. It's a pain getting to the plugs in these trucks, and though a plug may look fine - any slight fracture that may have been made from using a U-joint to reach them will cause rough start/idle issues. When in doubt, check and re-check your work already done. If done correctly, the truck should just fire up and run. If the complete tune-up BlazerLT and I are talking you through does not settle the issue, it's time to start looking deeper. Cheaper problems first. Checked your Fuel pressure yet? How about your battery and charging systems? Weak current anywhere in these electronic vehicles will cause a whole host of problems. Use the facilities and experience of your college shop to your full advantage too - talk to the eggheads there and the old, grey guys if any. Have fun!

Both..... when it is air warm it will start up right away
afetr I run my engine and then shut it off I can go abck and start it right up no problems

I need to make an appoinment with the shop here but I am not sure if I can get it in this week to check fuel pressure. If I had more knowledge of vehicles like BlazLT then I would do more work myself but I don't trust my work all the time so I will msot likely see if the shop can change the cap, rotor, and ignition wires.

Re: it is cold and now I have a hard start

You need to learn how to do this yourself.

I knew nothing about my truck 3 years ago and now I more or less have learned about every system in it.

This will apply to most vehicles seeing that they are all more or less the same.

Re: it is cold and now I have a hard start

well it is still have a hard start at first. what is my next step? Sould I have the fuel pressure checked out? again it is only the first time in the morning on a cold morning. Once I started it then it is fine to start right up any other starts after that.
