Woah! Freaked out by the way my spark plugs look!

Okay, below are some pictures of the spark plugs that I just took out of my '91 Accord. When I took them out I was suprised to find that they were covered by a layer of seemingly oil or gas or a mixture of both.

Okay, now yesterday I sprayed a bunch of intake cleaner into the intake while the engine was running to clean things out a bit. Was this not a good idea? And, could the wet plugs shown below be wet due to me spraying the intake with that intake cleaner stuff? Whats the verdict? Blow-by? I hope not!!!

ALSO, heres a video of me wiping the plugs with a paper towel. You get a good idea of what came off of them.

Plugs look good to me at the business end. The oil you see may be seeping in from valve cover. There are 4 seals that prevent oil slipping by the cover into the spark plug tubes. You can change the seals and the valve cover gasket and solve the seeping problem. A small amount of oil in the tubes makes it easier to get the spark plugs out though. Upper cylinder cleaner is OK but usually not necessary unless you are having problems.

From the color of the plugs, your spark plugs and the engine are in perfect condition. What happened is the engine oil sipped into the plug tubes. You just need to re-seal the tubes.

Inspect/change valve cover gasket. Inspect/change spark plug tube gasket.

Hint.

If all of the plugs have the same problem. Most likely, it's the valve cover gasket. I don't think all four plug tube gaskets will go at once. If one plug has that problem, then it's probably the plug tube gasket

Good Luck

Re: Woah! Freaked out by the way my spark plugs look!

whoa, blacknight. If the valve cover gasket was bad, it would let oil OUTSIDE the motor, not into the plug sockets. It goes around the outside edge! My suggestion (AFTER replacing the PLUG seals) would be to replace the PCV valve (cheap - easy - sometimes the culprit)

oops. You're right I was on another board and gota little confused. Try the plug seals. Or as previous stated. The PCV valve..That's a good idea
